Re: New Member Questions Thread
danester man wrote:I must ask, from your experience, what's the best way to sort Legos?
From my experience:
Small collection - by colour and type of piece i.e. small plates, large plates, slopes, brick, tiles
Larger collection - by piece type with no regard to colour plus extra bins for bulk purchases from PAB walls and bricklink.
Right now my collection is about 40,000 pieces and I have everything sorted by type then by colour. i.e. all my 1x2 plates are in one small bin, 1x6 plates in a larger bin etc. etc.

Re: New Member Questions Thread
Do not sort by colour!
It's easier to find a white tile in a box full of different tiles than a box filled with other white pieces.

Quite interesting, I sort by colour and I have no difficulty finding things.
Re: New Member Questions Thread
Thanks guys, but what I meant was should I dump a bunch of pieces on the floor and then organize or something else?

Re: New Member Questions Thread
I keep everything in at least 2 colors to give the eye depth. All one color makes it really hard to perceive individual shapes.
Grays
Browns & Greens
Blue
Dark Blue
Dark Red
Red, Orange, & Yellow
Black & White
Metallics
So on and so forth.

Re: New Member Questions Thread
That really depends on how many pieces, what colors, and what kind of pieces you have.
Being a collector, I don't have a lot of spare pieces, and therefore have a pretty rough sorting system.
First I sort by color:
Reds, yellow, orange.
tan, browns
greens, blues
Light grey
Dark grey
Light Bluish grey
Dark Bluish grey
White
Black
Chrome
Metallic
Trans
Other (Dark purple, pearls, etc.)
Tires
Other big parts you don't use a lot (like boat hulls and cannons)
Then I sort in thin pieces (plates, tiles) and thick pieces (bricks + other), colors which I have more big plates of (especially black) are sorted in plates and tiles under 4x6 and above. The trans is divided into small parts (like 1x1 round plates) and big parts (like cockpits).
For fig parts, animals, and other special parts I sort them by type in small boxes. For example yellow heads and other color heads, and legs and torsos by color.
But, as Tac pointed out, if you have a big collection, sort by type. Just one word of advise: do not mix light grey and light bluish grey, they're pretty hard to tell apart without looking closely.

Re: New Member Questions Thread
I have three huge boxes full of grey, and around 3 filled with unsorted pieces from old exo-force, star wars and other sets.
Oh, I also have a box of dark red.

New to forum, where to buy helmets besides briklink?
Hi, I'm a huge clone fan of course. And do customizing. I'm noticing several variations on helmets that Lego didn't produce, like the pilot w/ cheek guards helmet, kashyyyk style helmets etc. Is there a place that sells these??? They must be abs molds or castings...
thanks in advance for your help

We are not going to hunt through a thread about "new members asking questions" in search of an application. Note the thread title above does not say, "post your applications here" thread.

Re: New Member Questions Thread
Hi I'm new here I was trying to send someone a private message and it said that I hadn't yet reached the post limit. How many posts do you need to reach the post limit?

No idea actually. I would assume that this is anti-spamming precaution. I would imagine that is somewhere between 1-10 posts. I can hunt it down but seems like it would be easier to just post a few comments on active topics (like you just did) and try again.
Re: New Member Questions Thread
Yeah, some forums have rules like that. You have to post so much before you can PM people, I think it is to make sure you are active and people know you so that if something bad happens the problem will be worked out easily.

Re: New Member Questions Thread
When I try to get onto the C-Box it just says 'Connecting to server' then doesn't go off that. Why?
Re: New Member Questions Thread
Chatbox near the bottom of the forum in the 'Welcome!' section? Can't help you there. But the Mibbit Chat is a different story. You could be IP banned because you are a non-guildie, your computer doesn't work with Mibbit for some reason, or your computer just sucks.
Guild member?
How do you become a guild member?

Re: New Member Questions Thread
Clean up your grammar quick! It is in the FAQ. Did you read it at all?
Re: New Member Questions Thread
In the FAQ, I found this.FAQ wrote:So," you ask, "How do I join the Clone Army Builders Guild?"
There are two ways to join the guild:
1. By invite. You will receive an invitation to join the Guild.
2. By Request. You can request to join the Guild.
"Well," you say, "I have not been invited. How do I request to join?"
You must first register for these forums. Go to 'Register' at the top of the page, and fill out the required form. It will take a day or so to process, and the registration might be denied. However, if it is accepted, log in, you should send a Private Message (PM) to an ADMIN, Clonecommando007, Rook, Astoriabluelegos, or Legorevolution requesting to join the Guild. This PM needs to include an application with embedded images NOT just links, see below.
"I've registered and I'm getting ready to send the PM to you," you say, "What should the request message contain?"
In order for you to join the Clone Army Builders Guild, you should have at least one MOC containing Clone Troopers (You must have at least 3 MOCs, this gives us a better idea of you building skills). You must embed images you may also give us a link to the folder and tell us what it contains. Tell us why you want to join the Guild, and what you specialize at (Custom Minifigures/Vehicles/Battle scenes/etc.). Then we will decide whether or not you should be accepted into the guild. REMEMBER a Custom minifigure(s) is(are) not a MOC! We want to see your BUILDING skills. Finally remember a picture says a 1000 words. So make sure to: take pictures that are in focus, resize your images, and clear out all crap in the back ground.
If you are not accepted right away the ADMIN may share your entry with the CABG Council and a vote may be held.
The Council votes 1 of 3 simple answers.
1. Yes
2. No
3. More MOCs
If a majority votes "yes" (51% or higher) then you're in. If they voted "no". You'll be asked to re-submit at a later time (ADMIN may specify exact time for example one month). However if you receive votes for "More MOCs" this the same as far as acceptance. It simply means that the council members are encouraging you to resubmit at the specified date because they believe you are close to developing the skills needed for acceptance. Feel free PM the administrator after a week if you have not received a notice of approval/denial. Also, feel free to continue to supplement your application via your gallery, we don't want extra PMs every other day says "add this too".
If you are not accepted, do not panic, it is just that you may not be good enough yet. With time and inspiration from other members here, your skills will hopefully improve, and your future application is more likely to be approved. Remember most us start out building for fun. Now you need to learn to build to compete.

You know, it helps to read before you go start asking questions.
